Overview

THE KNOWLEDGE GAP

The nature of urban transport developments gives clear evidence that the knowledge of sustainable urban mobility is currently limited. For instance, transport development is essentially focused on building wide roads that promote motorization. Most cities in Africa have hardly urban mobility policies. Where they do exist, they’re only a component of other policies and are hardly given attention. Most Metropolitan Assemblies don’t even have ministries of transportation or other departments responsible for urban mobility. Those that do tend to focus more on road construction and maintenance staff.

The subject of urban mobility is rarely taught, and there is substantial contemporary knowledge and content that has not filtered into course curriculum in Universities across Africa. Professional short courses such as this offer a bridge for introducing such knowledge to professionals in the industry to bridge the knowledge gap.
